Claude OS Complete Startup System

Summary

The startup, restart, and stop scripts have been updated to manage the complete Claude OS system including the new real-time learning infrastructure.

What Each Script Does Now

🚀 start_all_services.sh

Complete startup of all Claude OS services:

1. ✓ Check Ollama (start if needed)
   └─ Verify models (llama3.1, nomic-embed-text)

2. ✓ Setup Python virtual environment
   └─ Install dependencies

3. ✓ Create data & logs directories

4. ✓ Start Redis
└─ Use Homebrew or direct daemon mode

5. ✓ Start RQ Workers (Real-Time Learning System)
└─ Listen on 3 job queues
   └─ Log to logs/rq_workers.log

6. ✓ Start MCP Server (FastAPI)
   └─ Port 8051
   └─ Log to logs/mcp_server.log

7. ✓ Start React Frontend (Vite)
   └─ Port 5173
   └─ Log to logs/frontend.log

Display summary with all URLs, ports, and status

Usage:

./start_all_services.sh

Output includes:

  • Service URLs (Frontend, API, Docs)
  • Ollama status and models
  • Database locations (SQLite + Redis)
  • Real-time learning system status
  • Log file locations
  • All 7 services running

🛑 stop_all_services.sh

Clean shutdown of all Claude OS services:

1. ✓ Stop MCP Server (port 8051)
2. ✓ Stop React Frontend (port 5173)
3. ✓ Stop RQ Workers
└─ Clean shutdown with fallback kill
4. ✓ Stop Redis
   └─ Graceful shutdown if possible

Usage:

./stop_all_services.sh

What's NOT stopped:

  • Ollama (may be used by other apps)
  • SQLite database (preserved for next startup)

🔄 restart_services.sh

Complete system restart:

1. Run stop_all_services.sh
└─ Clean shutdown of all services

2. Wait 3 seconds
└─ Allow ports and sockets to release

3. Run start_all_services.sh
└─ Fresh startup of entire system

Usage:

./restart_services.sh

When to use:

  • After code changes
  • If a service becomes unresponsive
  • When debugging issues
  • Regular maintenance

Service Startup Order

1. Ollama (LLM inference)
   └─ Required for embeddings

2. Redis (Message broker)
   └─ Required for real-time learning

3. RQ Workers (Job processing)
   └─ Depends on Redis
   └─ Enables real-time learning

4. MCP Server (API backend)
   └─ Depends on Ollama

5. React Frontend (Web UI)
   └─ Depends on MCP Server

New Features in Updated Scripts

1. Redis Management

  • Auto-start Redis if not running
  • Support for Homebrew or direct daemon
  • Graceful shutdown with fallback kill

2. RQ Workers Integration

  • Start workers with 3 job queues
  • Monitor in separate log file
  • Clean shutdown on stop

3. Better Logging

  • Separate log for RQ workers: logs/rq_workers.log
  • All logs in one place for easy monitoring

4. Comprehensive Status

  • Display real-time learning system status
  • Show all 3 job queues active
  • Confirm "always learning" is enabled

5. Improved Error Handling

  • Check Redis before starting workers
  • Graceful degradation if Redis unavailable
  • Clear error messages

The Complete System

Claude OS = Ollama + Redis + RQ Workers + MCP Server + React Frontend

What This Enables

✅ MCP Server - Knowledge base management ✅ React Frontend - Web dashboard ✅ Ollama - Local LLM inference ✅ Redis - Real-time pub/sub messaging ✅ RQ Workers - Job processing for learning system ✅ Real-Time Learning - Always listening, always learning

One Command to Start Everything

./start_all_services.sh

Now starts:

  • 5 major services (Ollama, Redis, MCP, Frontend, RQ)
  • 3 job queues (learning, prompts, ingest)
  • All logging infrastructure
  • Auto-detection and recovery

Monitoring During Operation

View Logs in Real-Time

# MCP Server
tail -f logs/mcp_server.log

# React Frontend
tail -f logs/frontend.log

# RQ Workers (Real-Time Learning)
tail -f logs/rq_workers.log

# All logs at once
tail -f logs/*.log

Check Service Status

# Check Redis
redis-cli ping
# Output: PONG

# Check RQ workers
python -m rq info

# Check ports in use
lsof -i :6379 # Redis
lsof -i :8051 # MCP Server
lsof -i :5173 # Frontend
lsof -i :11434 # Ollama

Performance Characteristics

Service Startup Time Port Memory
Ollama 10-30s 11434 4-6GB
Redis 2-3s 6379 100MB
RQ Workers 3-5s N/A 200MB
MCP Server 5-10s 8051 500MB
React Frontend 5-10s 5173 200MB
Total ~45s - ~6GB

Troubleshooting

Redis won't start

# Check if Redis is already running
redis-cli ping

# Kill any stray Redis processes
pkill -f "redis-server"

# Start manually
redis-server

RQ Workers not starting

# Check Redis is running first
redis-cli ping

# Check if workers are already running
ps aux | grep "rq worker"

# Restart just the workers
pkill -f "rq worker"
./start_all_services.sh

Port conflicts

# Check which processes are using ports
lsof -i :6379 # Redis
lsof -i :8051 # MCP Server
lsof -i :5173 # Frontend

# Kill if needed
kill -9 <PID>

Integration with Other Tools

Claude Code CLI

The real-time learning system publishes to Redis when you send messages:

# CLI publishes to Redis pub/sub
redis.publish("claude-os:conversation:4", {
    "role": "user",
    "text": message_text,
    "timestamp": datetime.now().isoformat()
})

Git Hooks

The git hooks integrate with the MCP Server:

# On commit, git hook can trigger indexing
python3 incremental_indexer.py 4 /path/to/project

analyze-project Skill

Automatically uses all services:

analyze-project: 4
# Creates docs, indexes code, installs git hook

The Complete Workflow

Morning:
  ./start_all_services.sh
  ✅ Everything running

During Development:
  - Make changes
  - Commit code
  - Git hook auto-indexes
  - Real-time learning detects changes
  - I learn continuously

Evening:
  ./stop_all_services.sh
  ✅ Clean shutdown

Next Morning:
  ./start_all_services.sh
✅ Start fresh with all context preserved
