Installation Script Enhancements

What Was Fixed

1. ✅ Bulletproof Error Handling

Before: Script would exit on first error (set -e) Now: Script tracks all errors but always completes

Features:

• Error counting (ERROR_COUNT, WARNING_COUNT)
• Error logging (ERROR_LOG)
• Status tracking (SUCCESS, PARTIAL, FAILED)
• Color-coded messages (red for errors, yellow for warnings, green for success)

2. ✅ Always Complete with Summary

Before: Script might stop without telling you what happened Now: Always shows comprehensive summary

Summary includes:

3. ✅ Smart Python Detection

Finds compatible Python automatically:

• Checks python3.12 first (preferred)
• Falls back to python3.11
• Checks if default python3 is 3.11 or 3.12
• Shows clear error if only Python 3.13+ available

Error message:

❌ ERROR: Python 3.14 found, but Claude OS requires Python 3.11 or 3.12

Please install Python 3.11 or 3.12:
  • macOS with Homebrew: brew install python@3.12
  • Ubuntu/Debian: sudo apt install python3.12

4. ✅ Graceful Failure Handling

If critical step fails:

• Installation continues to show what worked
• Shows clear error messages
• Provides GitHub issue link with diagnostic info
• Never leaves user confused

5. ✅ Removed Agent-OS Installation

Why: Repository doesn't exist, was causing script to hang Now: Documented in README as manual installation option

Benefit: Faster, cleaner installation

New Helper Functions

log_error()    # Logs error and increments counter
log_warning()  # Logs warning and increments counter
log_success()  # Shows green checkmark message

Usage:

if some_command; then
    log_success "Component installed"
else
    log_error "Component failed to install"
fi

Installation Status Codes

The script tracks three states:

1. SUCCESS - No errors, everything installed
2. PARTIAL - Some errors but key components work
3. FAILED - Critical errors prevent installation

Exit codes:

• 0 - SUCCESS or PARTIAL (usable)
• 1 - FAILED (not usable)

Test 2: Python Version Error

# If only Python 3.14+ available

Expected:

• ❌ Clear instructions to install Python 3.12

• ❌ Exit code 1

Test 3: Partial Failure
